Vor den leeren Rängen Anfields marschierte der Liverpool FC, angeführt von Kapitän Virgil van Dijk, auf das Spielfeld. Mit dem Arsenal FC wartete ein unangenehmer Gegner auf den LFC. Die Gunners konnten die letzten zwei Duelle für sich entscheiden.

Im Spiel kamen die Gäste aus London aber kaum aus der eigenen Hälfte heraus. Liverpool dominierte, kreierte aber kaum nennenswerte Torchancen. Meistens konnte ein Arsenal-Verteidiger, wie hier David Luiz, eine gefährliche Situation noch verhindern.

Überraschenderweise ging Arsenal aber dennoch in Führung. Beim ersten Angriff des Spiels versprang Andy Robertson der Ball nach einer gegnerischen Flanke. Alexandre Lacazette nutzte den Patzer des Schotten aus, um Alisson aus kurzer Distanz zu überwinden.

Die Führung der Gunners hielt aber nicht lange. Direkt im Gegenzug attackierte Liverpool über den rechten Flügel. Salah dribbelte sich in den Strafraum hinein und zwang Torhüter Bernd Leno zu einer Parade. Der Deutsche prallte den Ball genau vor die Füße von Sadio Mané ab. Der Senegalese stand goldrichtig und erzielte ohne große Mühe den Ausgleich.

Liverpool schaltete nach dem Ausgleichstreffer keinen Gang runter und attackierte vehement das Tor der Gunners. Am Ende war es ausgerechnet Robertson, der die Reds nach seinem Fehler wieder in Führung brachte. Der Portugiese sorgte gleich für frischen Wind in der Offensive und belohnte sich kurz vor Schluss mit seinem ersten Pflichtspieltreffer für den Liverpool FC. Einen misslungenen Klärungsversuch von David Luiz nahm Jota mit der Brust an, um dann mit einem Volley zu vollstrecken. Anschließend ließ er sich von seinen Teamkollegen feiern.
