Nach zehn Minuten schoss Sadio Mané die Reds in Führung. Sein vierter Treffer diese Saison sorgte für die Führung in der Torschützenliste der Premier League.

Leicester wurde in der Folge keinesfalls schwächer, sondern hielt weiter dagegen. Trotzdem erhöhte Roberto Firmino noch vor der Pause die Führung für seine Farben.

Im zweiten Durchgang unterlief Torhüter Alisson der erste Fehler in den vier Spielen. Der Brasilianer verlor die Kugel an Kelechi Iheanacho, der an Rachid Ghezzal weiterleitete. Dieser musste nur noch in das leere Tor einschieben.

Leicester spürte, dass noch alles möglich ist – und Liverpool-Coach Jürgen Klopp wurde zunehmend ungeduldiger.

Am Ende gewann Liverpool jedoch wieder einmal auf knappe Art gegen die Foxes. Für die Reds bedeutet der Sieg auch zugleich einen neuen Rekord, noch nie konnte das Team die ersten vier Ligaspiele gewinnen.
